Handicraft Production
Made in a garage
Driven by the passion for DIY passed on by my father, I developed a deep interest in handcrafted creations. Recently, he acquired some vintage machines from the famous Swiss brand Inca, now unobtainable on the market.
Unearthing them on second-hand websites, we set about transforming our modest workshop into a full-fledged production line for UJUAL products.
Inspired by our vintage machines, we imagined a modular press capable of precisely cutting and pre-sewing our iconic U Space and U Space Plus bags. Composed of several metal parts with integrated magnets for easy assembly, the press houses cutting blades and sewing punches.
Its modular design offers great versatility, enabling the manufacture of different bag formats, including future models.
Meticulous work
In order to obtain a press that is modular and easy to modify, I spent a long time developing a system that, inspired by legos, leaves room for imagination and future creations. I designed several types of pieces, the side pieces which are 6cm long and the corner pieces.
In addition to these pieces, a special fixed combination has been designed for the slot of the integrated handle, this piece is fixed and allows each U Space bag to be compatible with UJUAL accessories.
The beginning of a new way of production
Each metal part of this press has been carefully crafted by hand, using traditional tools such as saws and drills, accompanied by extensive research. Our workshop, nestled in the garage of my father's house, is the beginning of UJUAL handcrafted creations.
Despite successful initial trials, we realised that the blades and punches tended to degrade rapidly due to the press strokes, making this system unviable in the long term. We then had to find a more durable alternative capable of supplying quality products.
